Bima Bharosa

Bima Bharosa complaint: how it works.

Last updated 23 October 2026.

The short answer. Bima Bharosa is IRDAI’s online portal for insurance complaints. You register the complaint and can track it there. The portal states that a registered complaint will be attended to within 14 days. If the reply does not resolve it, the next step is the Insurance Ombudsman. The portal takes no payment of any kind.

Your options

How a Bima Bharosa complaint goes.

Go to the insurer first. A clear written record makes the portal complaint stronger.

  1. 1. Complain to the insurer in writing. Keep the acknowledgement or proof of delivery.
  2. 2. Escalate to the insurer’s grievance officer. Attach your first letter and the reply, if any.
  3. 3. Register the complaint on Bima Bharosa. Give the policy and claim details, what happened, what you want, and attach your letters.
  4. 4. Track it on the portal. Check the reply. The portal states complaints are attended to within 14 days.
  5. 5. If it is not resolved, approach the Insurance Ombudsman. Within one year, at no fee, for compensation up to ₹50 lakh. The portal does not pass the complaint on for you.

What to attach

  • Policy number and policy document
  • The rejection or deduction letter
  • Your grievance letter to the insurer, with proof of delivery
  • The grievance officer’s reply, if any
  • Claim form and medical or other records
  • Your ID and contact details

What to expect

A clear complaint reads like this.

Short, dated and specific works best.

  • State the facts. Policy, claim number, dates, and what the insurer decided.
  • State the reason you disagree. Point to the policy clause and your documents.
  • State what you want. Payment of the claim, reconsideration, or a written reason.
  • Attach the trail. Every letter and reply, in date order.
